Disposal of e-waste is a particular problem faced in many regions across the globe in which Nigeria is among the countries taking a lead. This paper therefore examines the implications of alarming increase in the rate of e-waste generated in Nigerian housing environment and various offices across the nation.

The research method employed involves counting, observation and assessment of the refuse dump carts/ground or dung hills in selected refuse dumping points in the following state capitals; Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Benin, Asaba, Akure and Port Harcourt to determine the percentage of the e-waste disposed. Relevant data were also collected through questionnaires administration to government offices, computer business centers, cyber café and computer workshops from the aforementioned state capitals. The findings show that e-waste contributed a high percentage of waste in offices yearly because of high shift of industrial sectors in using computers for the major automation of tasks and works in offices. The paper highlights possible environmental implications and suggests relevant recommendation to reduce the menace from e-waste.

Keywords: E-waste, computers, housing/office environment
